Joe's family had a wonderful mini reunion welcome back picnic for us. It was so nice to see some of his family members again and to meet some new ones for the first time. Thanks everyone!!!








Everyone is here with their spouses except for Mikes wife. She had a function on her side of the family but we got to spend a few days with her before she left.

Stroll to Garrard Creek. Washington. August, 2009

One of Ma and Pa Berg's daily stroll is to Garrard Crick as they call it. It's right up their dirt road and was a walk that Joe and I took a few times daily and have posted other pictures in my past blogs from walks we went on there. This is a place that Ma and Pa Berg would often walk their grandchildren to as they would gather rocks and throw them in the crick and listen to the sound of them hit the water. They did that with my boys when we visited many, many years ago. On this day the guys went to a sporting store and were gone for quite some time. So we decided to see what's going on there since they are going to put up a new bridge and are starting to work on it..

Apple Cider Making in Washington State. August 2009

My in laws have quite a bit of apple trees in their yard. A few years ago they decided to purchase a cider maker. It makes great cider and has been a lot of fun for the family. On this day Joe and his brother Mike were making it with help from their mom and pop.

You start with a wheel barrow of apples.


Gather them up to put them in the cider press.



Run them through the machine and press the pulp free of it's juices.


Strain the juice..



And then you get cider. I wish I took a picture of the finished product.. Darn!

We had a daily routine of taking walks around Joe's parents property. On this day we got to watch a Doe and her Fawn.



Ugly slug... Even though they were having a dry spell we still managed to see big ole slugs..

We were done with our hike at Paradise and time to head back to Joe's folks. But not before we stopped at some of the Waterfalls down the mountain , Narada and Christine and few pictures of the views on our way back.
